Forest Heights Lodge partners with a non-profit program in Evergreen Colorado to provide Equine-Assisted Therapy. Our partners are master’s level clinicians credentialed through the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) as Equine Specialists. Together, we integrate both educational and clinical opportunities into a unique and enriching experience for the students.
Students who have had difficult emotional or traumatic experiences have found that Equine-Assisted Therapy can be an effective support in helping them develop self-confidence, self-esteem, empathy, and develop new insights into their own lives and relationships. Equine-Assisted Therapy provides a strong, metaphor for students developing new perspective, awareness and skills in relationship building. The students learn to identify and respond to the moods, attitudes and personalities of the horses. Working with a horse also helps the students improve their muscle strength, balance, fine and gross motor skills and coordination.
The curriculum has been written to incorporate Core Curriculum Standards in the areas of Physical Education and Comprehensive Health Education. Our Colorado Licensed teachers attend and participate in every session.
